If you've ever forgotten your password for a document, you know that is sure can be mighty upsetting. This application is designed to attempt to recover a lost password from your word or excel file.
It is to be used in two instances:
Of course, it's not meant to be used to gain unauthorized access to files. The writer, me, holds no responsibility for the use of this program.
Password_Recovery.exe is the main file, it works in two ways, Dictionary or Brute Force.
Dictionary will try a set of words, found in a file. words.txt gives you one to start with. Any file with words, one per line, will work.
Brute force will try every combination of characters, using lower case, upper case, and/or numbers.
Of course, dictionary is faster if the password is a regular word (as most are), a fast computer can test 40,000 words in a half an hour. Brute force, may take days depending on the length and complexity of the password.
This program does not exploit any weaknesses in the encryption, nor does it attack the algorithm itself, so it's not nearly as fast as other programs, but it's thorough and it's free...
I hope this works for you. If you've got a better words.txt file, or if you just want to comment, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
